Books as Inspiration

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Here at The Happily Ever After Project we love everything about print and use battered, vintage book finds as inspiration for our designs. We are ashamed to say that this interesting and beautiful book was destined for a friend at Christmas, but we were unable to resist its charms. Instead, we sent an email to our friend entitled….’here’s what you could have won’.

When we flicked through this book it is inspirational and literally takes the breath away, wedding stationery should be a similar experience, once you find that special invite.

It is possible to theme contemporary weddings with panache and style. The underlying theme should be simplicity, with a dash of elegance. The soft grey design suggest silver, subtlety should always be the ultimate aim, if you are looking for a stylish gathering.

I love this Retro Stamp Collection from Royal Mail. The images are quiessentially British with a stylised aesthetic. After seeing the collection it dawned on me I might be tempted to start collecting stamps (only joking).

Old Vintage Postcards

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I do love vintage and there is a really interesting shop full of vintage postcards in Keswick. There are a few tattered boxes, full to the brim with old postcards. I really like the sepia images, and the way in which the old-worldliness of a place is captured. If you look closely at the Biarritz postcard, the essence of glamorous 1920’s society is exemplified perfectly by people eating al fresco at the Hotel Metropole.

I just had to let you know of my most recent thrifty bargain! I was standing in a dusty ‘Aladdin’s Cave’, when I happened upon the coolest desk light ever conceived - it is a beautiful, elegant; industrial engineering success! It has lots of weighted joints, springs and metal. And it cost me £3!
